"If you're ready we can shake the world
Believe again
It starts within
We don't have to wait for destiny
We should be the change that we want to see"

I think this is the hardest lesson to learn as leaders. We cannot just sit back, give orders, and expect change to occur. Instead, we have to step up, we have to follow through with our intentions, and we have to create "the change that we want to see."

I feel like so many people just think, "Our world is doomed. Our government is "wacked." There is nothing I can do to fix anything." We need to stop thinking these thoughts. Of course nothing is going to get fixed if we always expect others to do all of the work. We need to believe in ourselves and believe in those around us. Each and everyone of us has the ability to make a positive impact on our cities' communities, states' communities, and nation's communities if we take the time to engage ourselves with those around us.

54. Cultivate Harmony

Cultivate harmony within yourself, and harmony becomes real;
Cultivate harmony within your family, and harmony becomes fertile;
Cultivate harmony within your community, and harmony becomes abundant;
Cultivate harmony within your culture, and harmony becomes enduring;
Cultivate harmony within the world, and harmony becomes ubiquitous.

Live with a person to understand that person;
Live with a family to understand that family;
Live with a community to understand that community;
Live with a culture to understand that culture;
Live with the world to understand the world.

How can I live with the world?
By accepting.

"Some Pretty Powerful Words"

I know this is an old post, but I just stumbled upon your blog. I have to say it is pretty inspiring (the song and blog).

I bet you've already seen this speech, but if you haven't, I think it is--by far--the best speech that Obama made during the campaign, and one that needs to be heard and read by a lot of people that I know.

It came in the midst of the Rev. Wright controversy which threatened to derail his bid for the presidency and further divide the country. It is one of his longest speeches, and I feel one of his most revealing.

To me, this is leadership.
